Environment and Climate Resilience

Protecting ecosystems, strengthening communities, and promoting sustainable livelihoods.

Why Environment and Climate Resilience Matters

Across Uganda, climate change threatens rural livelihoods, reducing harvests, accelerating soil degradation, and increasing floods and droughts. Families whose survival depends on agriculture face increasing vulnerability. Needs Based Response Uganda (NBRU) established the Environment and Climate Resilience Program to restore ecosystems, promote climate-resilient practices, and empower communities.

Current Challenges

Our Approach

Tree Planting & Reforestation

Working with communities, schools, and youth groups to plant climate-resilient trees that restore soil fertility, prevent erosion, and enhance carbon storage.

Agroforestry & Climate-Smart Agriculture

Integrating trees into farms to diversify crops, improve soil structure, and increase yields — creating stronger, climate-adaptive livelihoods.

Biodiversity & Water Protection

Supporting the protection of wetlands, water bodies, and natural habitats essential for community survival and wildlife conservation.

Community Engagement & Education

Training & Awareness

Educating farmers, youth, and community members on sustainable land management, climate-smart practices, and conservation techniques.

Clean Energy & Sustainable Practices

Promoting energy-efficient stoves, re-usable materials, and eco-friendly community initiatives to reduce pressure on local forests.
